Sérgio Gomes Presidente da ABB no Brasil [President of ABB in Brasil] Foi no início do século passado, nos idos de 1912, que a ABB fez seu primeiro fornecimento no Brasil: o equipamento elétrico do bondinho do Pão de Açúcar, no Rio de Janeiro. A história da empresa no País confunde-se com a própria história da industrialização e da implantação da infra-estrutura local. A ABB, ao longo destes quase 100 anos, esteve envolvida com produtos, sistemas e serviços industriais na implantação da indústria de base e de manufatura, bem como das redes de transmissão e distribuição, além dos grandes projetos de geração de energia. Foi na década de 50 que a ABB iniciou suas atividades com instalações industriais próprias, inaugurando suas fábricas de Osasco e Guarulhos, na grande São Paulo. As quais seguem operando desde então. Hoje, mais de 4.500 empregados, produzindo em oito fábricas e oficinas e prestando serviços de manutenção industrial em inúmeros clientes espalhados pelo País, são a expressão viva de um segmento que passou por boas e más fases da economia, sem nunca abdicar do ideal da importância estratégica de se ter uma forte indústria eletroeletrônica estabelecida localmente. Menos de dez anos após o início de nossas operações industriais no País, nascia a Abinee, que a ABB ajudava fundar, como entidade representativa dos interesses das indústrias elétrica e eletrônica, cuja importância estratégica crescia na mesma medida do desenvolvimento econômico do País. Hoje, a Abinee pode comemorar 45 anos de bem-sucedidas realizações, com a certeza do dever cumprido. Merecem nosso reconhecimento e gratidão todos aqueles que, ao longo de quatro décadas e meia, dedicaram tempo e esforço para contribuir com a consolidação de uma forte indústria eletroeletrônica no Brasil. Parabéns! It was the beginning of the last century, about 1912, that ABB made its first delivery to Brazil: the electrical equipment for the Pão de Açúcar (Sugar Loaf) cable car in Rio de Janeiro. The story of ABB in Brazil can get tied up with the story of industrialization itself and the introduction of the local infrastructure. Over these nearly one hundred years ABB has been involved in industrial products, systems and services in implementing the basic and manufacturing industry as well as transmission and distribution networks, apart from large power generation projects. It was in the fifties that ABB began its activities with its own industrial installations, inaugurating its factories in Osasco and Guarulhos in the Greater São Paulo Area. These are still running today. Today, more than 4,500 employees producing in eight plants and workshops and supplying industrial maintenance services for innumerous clients around the country are the live expression of a segment which has seen good and bad phases of the economy without ever abdicating from its ideal of the strategic importance of having a strong electro electronics industry established locally. Less than ten years after beginning our industrial operations in the country, Abinee was born, which ABB helped to found, as a representative entity of the interests of the electrical and electronic industries, whose strategic importance grew at the same pace as the country’s economic development. All those who throughout four and a half decades have dedicated their time and effort to contribute with the consolidation of a strong electro electronics industry in Brazil deserve our recognition and gratitude.
